Islamic Law Approved In Somalia
The parliament in Somalia approved a government proposal to introduce Islamic Sharia law in Somalia in a move to appease the Muslims waging a civil war since 1991. The 340 members in the Parliament voted unanimously to implement the Sharia law and declare an Islamic government in Somalia. Deputy Speaker Osman Elmi Bogore presided over the day’s proceedings in the absence of the speaker Aden Mohammad Nur. Hardliners were pressing for Islamic Sharia as the only solution to the country’s mounting problems. Many supporters of the Islamic government said they hoped the passing of the Bill sanctioning Islamic government would decrease the prolonged violence in Somalia.
